Spotlight on Diversity

This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Diversity. Dedicated to high-quality Open Access research, the journal publishes work related to organismic and molecular diversity. Here, we’ll look at its history, scope and aims as well as the submission process for researchers interested in publishing with the journal.

A history of Diversity

Diversity was launched in 2009 with Prof. Dr. Michael Wink as Editor-in-Chief (EiC). It began as a quarterly publication, and has since grown in scope and output, adopting a monthly publication schedule in 2019. Also in 2019, Diversity received its first Impact Factor of 2.047, which has gradually risen to 2.4 as of 2024.

To celebrate the high-impact work published within the journal, several awards have been introduced throughout its lifetime. These include the Travel Award, for which the first edition was launched in 2017. Other awards have subsequently been introduced, including the Best Paper Award and the Outstanding Reviewer Award. You can access the journal’s awards page to find out more.

Sections and scope

The journal publishes on a variety of topics. Below is a list of the specific sections in the journal:

  • Animal Diversity;
  • Plant Diversity;
  • Microbial Diversity and Culture Collection;
  • Chemical Diversity and Chemical Ecology;
  • Biogeography and Macroecology;
  • Phylogeny and Evolution;
  • Biodiversity Loss & Dynamics;
  • Biodiversity Conservation.

Diversity in 2024

Diversity has, in total, published 4549 papers, of which 872 have been cited 10 or more times. In 2024, Diversity will continue to publish high-quality research that advances biodiversity science.

For those interested in learning more about related research trends, this year’s 3rd International Electronic Conference on Diversity is scheduled to take place mid-October 2024 (15th-17th). The conference will be held virtually and is free to participate in. Registration ends 10 October 2024. Key themes that will be covered at the conference include animal diversity; biodiversity conservation; marine diversity; microbial diversity and culture collections; phylogeny and evolution; and plant diversity.

Diversity is an international, peer-reviewed and Open Access journal publishing works and research from the field of biodiversity. The journal is published monthly online by MDPI. For more information, please see the journal’s page.

Thinking of submitting your manuscript to Diversity?

Manuscripts for Diversity should be submitted online at susy.mdpi.com. The submitting author, who is generally the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript during the submission and peer review process.

To submit your manuscript, register and log in to the submission website. Once you have registered, click here to go to the submission form. All co-authors can see the manuscript details in the submission system if they register and log in using the e-mail address provided during manuscript submission.

Future research

Diversity is dedicated to publishing cutting-edge research on a range of topics. If you’re planning on submitting work in this area of research, the journal will have a section suitable for you.

If you’re interested in finding more information about the journal’s scope, future awards, or anything else, please visit their website.
