Conference: The 1st International Conference on AI Sensors & The 10th International Symposium on Sensor Science in Singapore
With nearly 400 attendees from more than 20 countries, the 1st International Conference on AI Sensors & The 10th International Symposium on Sensor Science (AISI3S2024) was a great success. The conference was held on 1‒4 August in Singapore.
Here, we’ll overview what the conference contained and introduce you to the topics it covered.
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence and sensors
Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly evolved in recent years, ushering in an era of innovation across various industries and research areas. As AI is further developed, researchers are implementing AI in sensors to increase their potential.
Further, as researchers artificially synthesise new recognition elements, there has been significant advances in the synthesis of nanomaterials and understanding of their properties, and the innovation of signal transduction principles. Because of this, sensor science has become one of the most active research areas.
The multidisciplinary fields of AI and sensors cover a diverse range of topics, all of which were addressed at the AIS and I3S 2024 conferences.
How were the AI Sensors symposia organized?
The AI Sensors 2024 is jointly organized with the 10th International Symposium on Sensor Science (I3S 2024) to provide a dynamic platform that brings together academic leaders, thought leaders, pioneers, engineers, students, and visionaries in the multidisciplinary field of AI Sensors.
Our mission is to explore cutting-edge advancements, share groundbreaking research, and foster collaboration that will shape the future of sensing technology across various industries.
The symposia were the following:
- Wearable AI Sensors.
- Energy Harvesting Technology for Self-Sustained AIoT Systems.
- Enabling Technologies for Neuromorphic Computing and Photonics Neural Networks.
- Haptic Technology for Future Metaverse Applications.
- Advances in Intelligent Sensors and Robots for AI-Enhanced Applications – Industry 5.0, Digital Twin, Smart Homes, Healthcare, and Rehabilitation.
How were I3S workshops organized?
We provided a platform to invite academic leaders, thought leaders, pioneers, engineers, students and visionaries from sensors and AI communities to share their cutting-edge technologies in emerging fields by jointly hosting the AIS conference with I3S.
There are 14 workshops in I3S:
- 1: MEMS, NEMS and Edge Applications.
- 2: Metamaterials and Nanophotonics.
- 3: Sensors and IC Sensors Using CMOS MEMS and CMOS Compatible Materials
- 4: Si Photonics for Sensing and Edge Computing.
- 5: Advanced Semiconductors and Heterogeneous Integration for Sensing Systems and Applications in 6G (e.g., compound semiconductors, 2D materials, chiplet, and system-in-package, etc.).
- 6: Sensors, Implanted Energy Harvesters and Devices, and In-body IoT Technology for Prosthesis and Electroceuticals.
- 7: Sensors for Agriculture Applications and Harsh Environment.
- 8: Biosensors and Chemosensors.
- 9: Flexible, Stretchable and Wearable Sensors.
- 10: Self-Powered Sensors and Sensing Systems.
- 11: IoT Sensors and System Integration.
- 12: Advances in Sensor Applications.
- 13: MicroTAS and Lab-on-a-chip.
- 14: Industry Forum and Commercialization of Sensors and AI-Enabled Service.
Plenary speakers
The plenary speakers included the following:
- Chwee-Teck Lim, a distinguished National University of Singapore (NUS) Society Professor and Director at iHealthtech.
- Chengwei Qiu is a distinguished Dean’s Chair Professor specialising in structured light and metasurfaces at NUS.
- Inkyu Park is a distinguished KAIST Chair Professor and Principal Investigator at the MINT Lab.
- Ray-Hua Horng is a Professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, specialising in optoelectronic devices, power transistors, and more.

Events at AIS-I3S 2024
Attendees were invited to a conference dining, which was held at the Hotel Fort Canning. Also, optional social activities included visits to the S.E.A. Aquarium or Cloud Forest.
Alongside this, there was a poster exhibition, which featured 67 posters.

AIS-I3S 2024
Overall, AIS-I3S 2024 was a huge success. The conference attracted a diverse mix of experts across the multidisciplinary area of AI sensors.
