Inventions MDPI: Journal Spotlight
For MDPI, 2026 brings opportunity for celebration and reflection. Not only does it mark 30 years of MDPI’s commitment to advancing open science, but it also coincides with many monumental anniversaries for some of MDPI’s leading journals.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, this edition of our Journal Spotlight will be looking at the achievements and growth of Inventions (ISSN 2411-5134).
Inventions is an international, peer-reviewed Open Access journal that publishes original research concerning innovation and invention in all fields of science, engineering and product development processes.

Editors-in-Chief
Inventions has had two Editors-in-Chief since its launch in 2016; Prof. Dr. Chien-Hung Liu and Prof. Dr. Shoou-Jinn Chang.
Prof. Dr. Liu is currently a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Chung Hsing University of Taiwan, and he shares the Inventions EiC position with Dr. Chang, a professor of electrical engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Cheng Kung University.
Together their research interests cover a broad range of subjects, from semiconductor physics and optoelectronic engineering to precision instrument design and laser technology.

Aims & scope
In the journal’s first editorial piece, the co-Editors-in-Chief discuss the three aims of the journal: timely publication, guide researchers to innovative results, and industrial application.

Conferences
Conferences present a valuable opportunity to connect with the wider academic community. The journal engages with a wide range of conferences hosted by MDPI.
MDPI is hosting the 3rd International Conference on AI Sensors and Transducers from 2 to 7 August 2026. The conference will include sessions on metasurface and metaoptics, AI sensors for smart healthcare applications, soft robotics technologies, wearable and flexible ultrasound electronics, and more.
The journal also hosted the 1st International Online Conference on Inventions earlier this year, providing a platform for researchers in the field to explore latest developments and future directions. The conference focussed on topics including energy system analysis and advanced sustainable energy conversion systems.
