ISFMS 2025: 5th International Symposium on Molecular Sciences
The abstract submission deadline, 15th April 2025, for the “5th International Symposium on Frontiers in Molecular Sciences (ISFMS 2025)—Molecular Regulatory Mechanisms of Biological Function and Drug Discovery based on Protein Structure/Function Analysis” is approaching!
This is an in-person conference as part of the International Symposium on Frontiers in Molecular Science series. The conference has previously taken place in Florence, Italy; however, this year the conference will be held in Kyoto, Japan, at the Kyoto Institute, Library and Archives, from 26 to 29 August 2025.
The conference, hosted by MDPI (publisher of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences), will follow a three-day format. With the deadline for submissions approaching, we go over important details you need to know about this exciting conference.
Conference details
Kyoto, Japan, has an extraordinary history; it served as the capital of Japan and the emperor’s residence until 1868. It has such historical value that during World War II the city was exempt from the list of potential cities targeted for the atomic bomb; because of this, the city is abundant with ancient Buddhist temples and shrines as well as other fascinating historic relics.
The previous conference, ISFMS 2022, was held in Florence, Italy, and aimed to foster collaborations among like-minded scientists in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology to discuss the druggability of proteins. IFMS 2025 hopes to bring together esteemed scientists in the fields of molecular sciences and drug discovery.
The groundbreaking research presented will elucidate the molecular mechanisms of biological function and regulation. Moreover, it will also facilitate drug design based on molecular biology, biophysical characterisation, in vivo environmental homeostasis, organ interactions based on sensory systems, physiome, and AI-assisted analysis of protein structures and functions.
ISFMS 2025 speakers
During the conference, we will hear from an impressive list of plenary, keynote, and invited speakers who will address these topics.
The plenary speakers include Prof. Dr. Vladimir N. Uversky from the University of South Florida, USA, Prof. Dr. Hideki Sakai from the University of Toyama, Japan, and Prof. Dr. Akiyuki Taruno from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Japan.
If you would like to read more about the exciting speakers presenting at the event, please see here.
MDPI is excited to welcome all participants to Japan to explore molecular sciences in drug discovery. This is an in-person event only, so it is not possible to participate online.
What is the purpose of ISFMS 2025?
The conference is an opportunity for leading scientists, researchers, and industry experts to present research in symmetry-related fields and inspire collaboration between disciplines.
Why did MDPI launch the conference series?
The IJMS journal provides an advanced forum for molecular studies in biology and chemistry, with a strong emphasis on molecular biology and molecular medicine. Moreover, the IJMS journal has continued to contribute in many different ways to the research community.

The conference sessions
The ISFMS 2025 conference will have six sessions, each with its own subject matter and guest speakers. The sessions are as follows:
- Protein Structure and Molecular Dynamics
- Enzymes
- Membrane Proteins
- Cancer Target Proteins
- Drug Design and Solution to Drug Resistance Problem
- Physiological Functions of Proteins and Organ Interactions
Participating in 5th International Symposium on Frontiers in Molecular Sciences
