Spotlight on Religions
This month, we’re taking a look at one of MDPI’s most unique journals, Religions, and look at its growth over the years, going all the way back to its launch in 2010.
A history of Religions
The inaugural issue of the journal was published in 2010, and started life as a quarterly publication. Prof. Dr. Peter Iver Kaufman was the Editor in Chief of the journal at the time, and he served through to 2018. Since 2019, two co-Editor in Chiefs, Prof. Dr. Klaus Baumann and Prof. Dr. Arndt Büssing have shared the responsibilities of helming Religions.
It was indexed in Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) in 2013, and in Scopus (Elsevier) the following year.
In 2015, Religions was indexed in ATLA Religion Database and in the following year, Religions moved to a monthly publication schedule. In addition to being indexed in Religious and Theological Abstracts (R&TA) the journal announced the first edition of its Travel Awards.
2020 saw remarkable growth in the journal and the introduction of three new sections,
- Religions and Theologies;
- Religions and Humanities/Philosophies;
- Religions and Health/Psychology/Social Sciences.
The journal also announced the first edition of the Outstanding Reviewer awards as well as the first edition of the Young Investigators award.
